Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County Board of Commissioners approved a series of expenditures, contracts, and personnel actions during their regular meeting last week.
The approvals included:
• Adoption of a proclamation designating August as “Child Support Enforcement Awareness Month.”
• Award of the Lehighton American Legion Post 314 parking lot reconstruction project to Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction Co. Inc. at a total of $106,058.75.
• Ratification of the Children & Youth FY 2024-25 Fourth Quarter Act 148 Invoice Report totaling $1,512,710.
• Ratification of a proposal from Howard Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Co. to install walk-in freezer equipment at the Correctional Facility at $11,290, including a five-year compressor warranty.
• Approval of a proposal from McHose Bros. Construction LLC to replace the Penn State Extension roof at $10,000, the lowest of three quotes.
• Submission of the county’s application to the Department of Agriculture for the State Food Purchase Program for fiscal year 2025-26.
• Submission of a Worker Protection & Investment Certification Form as part of the program.
• Submission of a HARIE Safety Improvement Grant application for up to $15,000, with funds to be used toward GPS software and devices for 41 county vehicles at a cost of $738 per month.
• Annual service agreement with Rodgers Clock Service of Harrisburg for the courthouse tower clock at $395.
• Reappointment of Craig Zurn, president/CEO of Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, to the Pocono Counties Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act Development Board through June 30, 2028.
• Acceptance of the resignation of Terrance Purcell from the same board effective June 30.
• Several gazebo requests for live entertainment in Josiah White Park, including Aug. 31, and multiple dates during Olde Time Christmas.
• Acknowledgment of an agreement with Jim Thorpe Borough to host the Heritage Festival at Mauch Chunk Lake Park.
• Adoption of a resolution honoring the 175th Anniversary of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning.
• Adoption of a resolution urging the Pennsylvania Legislature and governor to reimburse counties for interest payments on loans during the state budget impasse.
