Hoagie sale

Zion Lutheran Church is holding a hoagie sale through Sunday. Options are turkey, ham or Italian, with the choice of added items. Pickup is Sept. 7 after the 10:30 a.m. service until 12:30 p.m.

Grief support

St. Luke’s offers virtual Good Grief workshops, with the next one scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. tonight. September meetings are Sept. 11, from 1-2:30 p.m.; and Sept. 24, from 6-7:30 p.m. For more information, call 484-526-2499.

St. Luke’s also offers several grief support groups, including the Brodheadsville area support group, which will meet at the Western Pocono Community Library from 1-2:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and Oct. 15.

Bingo at Legion

American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will host bingo night on Monday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with card sales. First game is called at 7 p.m. There will be game specials. Food and beverages available for purchase.

Seniors meeting

The Monroe County Seniors group that meets at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will be gathering from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 3 and Sept. 5. Activities and guests vary from meeting to meeting.

Lunch can be bought for a nominal fee, but it must be ordered.

Beaded bracelets

The Western Pocono Community Library is hosting a beaded bracelets event at 2 p.m. Sept. 3. It is for adults only. Space is limited. RSVP is requested.

PVI open house

From 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Pleasant Valley Intermediate School will host an open house and book fair.

Monroe OES meeting

Monroe County Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 99, will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Rimrock Masonic Center at 2720 Rim Rock Drive.

The club membership grieves the passing of Sister Joyce Gunn, PM, and Sister Ruth B. Bird, PM.

Members will be making desserts and volunteering at the Stroudsburg UM Church’s homeless dinner on Sept. 7.

Mission meal

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will be serving its Mission Meal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The next one will be on Sept. 11.

The church also serves a community luncheon on the third Monday of each month after the 12:10 p.m. Mass.

Mortgage burning

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is anticipating a mortgage burning celebration on Sept. 14 in the parish hall after the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The hall was completed in 2002. Attendees are invited to bring a dish to share as the celebration takes place.

Holy Communion

St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, will offer Holy Communion on Sept. 7 at its 9:30 a.m. worship service and again on Sept. 21. Grape juice and gluten-free wafers are available.

Snow removal bids

Effort UMC is seeking snow removal bids for the 2025-26 season. Anyone seeking more information can call the church secretary at 570-629-1890.

All proposals will be presented to church trustees by the Sept. 8 meeting.

Two fundraisers

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding two fundraisers to help support 25 of its young people going to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis.

The first is selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, which will be available after all Masses. The second is a sale of Journey of Faith Candles. Candles are available to view at the church and can be ordered after all Masses. For more information, call 610-681-6137.

Wild turkey count

The Pennsylvania Wild Turkey Sighting Survey is open through Sunday.

Survey data allows the Pennsylvania Game Commission to determine total wild turkey productivity and compare long-term reproductive success within Pennsylvania and across states.

To report sightings, go to the Game Commission website, www.pa.gov/agencies/pgc, click on the Summer Turkey Sighting Survey link and follow reporting instructions.

Alzheimer’s walk

A walk to end Alzheimer’s is being held at the Northampton Community College in Tannersville on Sept. 6.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. The opening ceremony starts at 10 a.m., while the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. Register at act.alz.org/monroePA.

Family Rosary Bonfire

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold its Family Rosary Bonfire from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at the fire pit behind the pavilion. It will include a bonfire, s’mores, games and the rosary.

St. John’s events

Effort St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary will be meeting at noon Sept. 8. Attendees are reminded to bring a lunch. All women of St. John’s are welcome. The group continues to collect school supplies for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, including such items as socks, underwear, notebooks, pens and pencils.

Donors are asked to place items in the basket for PVEN.

Also being collected for PVEN, and the West End Food Pantry and Valor, are nonperishable items. Those items are to be placed in the baskets in the vestibule or in the Fellowship Room.

Additionally, the church is collecting ShopRite and Weis receipts. Donors are asked to place them in the buckets by the church office.

The church council will meet at 1 p.m. Sept. 8.

Photo contest

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center 2026 photo contest is underway.

Submissions are due Sept. 19.

One grand prize winner’s work will be featured on the cover of the MCCD 2026 calendar.

The winning photos will be displayed in the art gallery at Kettle Creek in December and January.

Bird seed sale

The Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is gearing up for its fall bird seed sale. The sale will feature Aspen Song Bird Seed blends. Also offered, through the gift shop, are Droll Yankee and other feeders.

Ordering deadline is Oct. 17. Call the center at 570-629-3061 to place an order over the phone or have an order form mailed. Hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
