Lansford Borough Council

Lansford Borough Council started thinking about budgeting for next year.

The borough set dates for upcoming budget meetings as follows: Sept. 3 and 17; Oct. 1 and 13; Nov. 10 and 19; and Dec. 3. All of the meetings are from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

In other business at the recent meeting, borough council:

• Tabled a handicapped parking space for Cheryl Heintzelman at 261 E. Abbott St. again. There was a question regarding the number of available spaces allowed in the block under ordinance.

Other questions arose about the borough limiting the number of handicapped parking spaces and if it complied with the American with Disabilities Act. Solicitor Bob Yurchak said he will look into parking rules.

The courts will be partially enclosed to keep balls from entering the street.

• Approved an invoice for $1,395 to BGM General Contractor for the bathroom floor in the borough garage in the former Zimmerman building. The bathroom was needed for occupancy.

• Tabled a $500 payment to James McDonald for damage to a sidewalk and drain to obtain more information and photographs.

• Changed the department head purchasing policy to require two signatures from council and the treasurer.

• Set Sept. 4 to conduct interviews of consultants for the borough’s application for Strategic Management Planning Program through the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Grant applications for the consultant are due Sept. 24.

• Approved a resolution for the 2025 Community Development Block Grant program.
