Weatherly superintendent to leave district
Weatherly Area School District’s superintendent is leaving the district to return to his roots.
Daniel M. Malloy was hired as the incoming superintendent of Hanover Area School District during the board’s August meeting. Malloy, who fills the spot following the end-of-year resignation of Superintendent Nathan Barrett, had left that district in 2021 when he was hired as Weatherly’s superintendent.
During Hanover’s Aug. 12 meeting, the board unanimously approved Malloy as the superintendent, effective 90 days from the action and at a starting salary of $155,000. His contract runs through June 30, 2029.
Board member Brian McDermott, who made the motion to hire Malloy, said at the end of the meeting that it was good to see an alum come back to lead the district.
“I know Dan Malloy for a long time,” McDermott said, pointing out that Malloy’s family was present at the meeting. “I just want to say, Dan, it’s good to have a Hawkeye come home. ... You’re going to really be a tremendous addition to this school district.
“Congratulations on walking that ladder and coming back to your alma mater.”
Malloy has over two decades of employment with the Hanover Area School District before leaving to come to Weatherly. He started his career in 1997 as a social studies teacher, and was promoted in 2005 as an assistant secondary principal. In 2012, he was promoted to high school principal, a position he worked in until 2021.
He is also a 1990 graduate of Hanover Area High School and was a member of the school’s football team.
Malloy told news outlets after the meeting that Weatherly was a “special place,” and he is forever grateful of the time he spent in the district.
