A Kulpsville man launched more than his boat this morning at the Beltzville Lake marine.

John Cassel arrived there at 6 o’clock, ready to enjoy a day of boating, but while backing the boat trailer to the water’s edge “something broke in the car,” he said, and the boat, trailer and car slid into the water.

Witnesses said the boat stayed afloat but the car, an Oldsmobile sedan, and trailer were submerged.

Employees of Hoffman Brothers, Parryville, recovered them after a diver put a grab hook on the car, which had sunk to the bottom of the deep water and turned around. It was brought out backwards by a Hoffman wrecker.
