Millie Black helped Tamaqua roll, Hailey Barry sparked Palmerton, and Daisy Stringer powered Northwestern as the trio opened volleyball play with straight-set sweeps.

Northwestern rolled past Saucon Valley 25-15, 25-20, 25-5 in its Colonial League opener.

Daisy Stringer recorded 10 kills and nine aces, while Leah Nagle added seven kills, four blocks and four aces.

Tamaqua rolled to a straight-set win over Freeland MMI, posting a 25-6, 25-8, 25-17 victory. Millie Black paced the Raiders with 11 kills, nine aces and two blocks, while Leah Black added five kills, nine aces and six digs. Madison Schock contributed 12 assists, four aces and five digs.

For MMI, Lanie Paniagua had four service points and a dig, Alexa Fabio added seven service points, an ace and a dig, and Kennedy Lutz chipped in three digs and a service point.

Southern Lehigh opened its season with a 25-10, 25-6, 25-14 Colonial League victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Spartans spread the offense around, with Natalie Pristas recording seven kills, while Sarah Jones and Lydia Bartlett each added six. Eliana Marques paced the attack with 18 assists.

Jim Thorpe was led by Brooklyn Yuhas, who had five digs and two kills, and Jaylah Yeakel, who added five digs and a kill. Abigael Kuhn chipped in two kills and a block for the Olympians.

Michael Bauer and Osnard Charles each tallied two goals for the Bulldogs. Ethan Moore, Keelin Moore and Kellen Bauer both chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Kamryn Karrat scored three goals, while Jenna Mayer, Kendall Pattishall and Maya Melnick all added two apiece as Parkland rolled to a 13-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley in Monday’s opener.

The Trojans held the Bears without a shot or corner, while PV goalkeeper Emilynn Stipeck finished with 18 saves.
