Carbon Co. cat shelter hosts dog wash fundraiser

The Carbon County Friends of Animals, the cat shelter in Jim Thorpe, went to the dogs over the weekend during the “Bubble & Paws Benefit” at the Olympian Pet Wash, 1201 North St. in Jim Thorpe.

“People can bring their pets to the Pet Wash to give them a bath,” Pam Poelnurk from CCFOA said, adding that half of all proceeds from the event will go to the Carbon County Friends of Animals.”

In addition to the pet wash, CCFOA sold hot dogs, chips and drinks, plus a wide range of pet costumes, so the pets (cats and dogs) could dress up in style for Halloween.

CCFOA also had a raffle for a dog bed and bowl. Children had a chance to win prizes by picking lollipops from the display.

The cat shelter is a nonprofit organization with the goal of caring for and finding homes for felines. It depends on community support for its operations.

The organization’s next fundraiser will be a cash, gift card, lottery ticket and designer purse bingo and basket raffle on Oct. 12 at the Orioles Community Center, Lehighton. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., bingo begins at noon. Bring an item from the wish list on the organization’s website to be entered in a special drawing.
