Petite Pastry Shop offers variety of sweets
The recently opened Petite Pastry Shop in Tamaqua is taking off.
“We get so busy in here. We’re already outgrowing this place and it’s only been three months,” said owner Daphnee Zoffka.
And Zoffka couldn’t be happier.
Since opening the doors to the 131 W. Broad St. bakery in May, the shop has attracted quite a following. People come in to purchase cupcakes, cookies, sourdough breads, tres leches and flan.
They’ve also been ordering wedding and birthday cakes, and custom-designed sweets for parties.
“Everybody comes with a different story. Everybody comes with a different vision,” Zoffka said. “And it’s amazing when they come and pick up their order and they say it’s either exactly what they wanted — or more than what they wanted.”
She works from a kitchen that’s just steps away from the pastry case. On a recent afternoon, it was filled with a dozen different selections, including banana split, churro and strawberry cupcakes. Cookies came in flavors like Butterfinger, Fruity Pebbles and Lucky Charms.
Breads, along with vegan and gluten-free offerings, rounded out the selection.
The shop recently baked soft cookies for a cosmetology school graduation. Each one was topped with a smooth icing and individual hand-drawn designs: bobby pins, combs, brushes — even a hair dryer.
“We create art — with our pastries, we like to say that it is art you can eat,” Zoffka said.
A tall, layered cake accompanied the order — looking almost too perfect to eat.
Zoffka studied at a culinary school for three years. But she had hands-on experience from a very young age.
Since her mother owned restaurants, she said, she and her sister would help with baking.
“Because my mom can cook — but she cannot bake,” Zoffka said with a smile.
Opening the shop, she said, is a way to get back to her roots.
“This is what I know how to do,” she said. “And that is my way of love: I love to serve people. The community has given so much love. It is amazing.”
