Eldred Twp. awards contract for generator
Eldred Township received one bid for its generator project.
Township Secretary Ann Velopolcek said Wind Gap Electric was the lone bidder for the installation of a generator that will take care of the municipal office, post office and the township’s garage for the Public Works Department.
The bid came in at $67,700, and the supervisors awarded the contract to Wind Gap Electric during their meeting on Wednesday night.
The generator has already been purchased through COSTARS, Velopolcek said. The contract covers the installation only.
The award still has to be approved by the Monroe County Industrial District Authority, because the township received a grant through the authority. Velopolcek said she anticipates MCIDA will approve it.
In other business, the post office was in need of an emergency repair. It rents space from the township in the building that also includes the municipal office.
Velopolcek said the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system stopped working, so there wasn’t any air conditioning.
Affordable Comfort Contracting Inc. in Saylorsburg came out and installed a new air conditioning unit and air handler, and cleaned the air ducts. The cost was $9,507.
“It was an old air conditioner; I think original to the building in 1994, so we got our money’s worth from it,” Velopolcek said.
Elsewhere in the township, the Eldred Township Historical Society was the beneficiary of a good deed.
Velopolcek said the engineering firm Pany & Lentz Engineering Co. in Allentown donated its time to inspect the foundation and framing of the old historic post office.
The township’s building codes officer had suggested that the structure be checked out, before any more work is done on it. Velopolcek said the engineering firm determined that there is nothing wrong and the building structure is fine.
The supervisors approved several items and discussed several topics.
• They appointed the new township administrator David Anderson as the township treasurer. The bond for his work as treasurer was set at $1.3 million.
• An Americans with Disabilities Act sign will be installed on Upper 57 Road. A resident requested the sign be placed there, because a visually impaired person lives in that area.
• The lease was renewed to the West End Food Pantry for the space it uses in the Eldred Township Community Center. The lease is for three years for $800 per month, with an option to renew the lease for one-year terms twice. The prior lease was for five years at $600 per month.
• The Eldred Township Historical Society will receive a donation of $100 to help pay for prizes for its bingo fundraiser on Oct. 12. Doors open at noon with games at 1 p.m. at St. Matthews Evangelical Congregational Church in Kunkletown.
• The Eldred Township Emergency Management Plan was created by Supervisor Gary Hoffman. The extensive document consists of three sections: the Emergency Operations Plan; Notifications and Resources; and Plans Checklist. It gives the township a structured plan to handle disasters, such as floods, fires, evacuations, etc.
