Ryan Memorial Park in Rush Township will be getting lights, thanks to a donation from an anonymous person.
“We were given a donation by a private person who wants to remain anonymous to put lighting in,” supervisor Robert Leibensperger explained during Thursday’s monthly board meeting.
Supervisors voted to award a bid for the lights to the lowest bidder, following a review by township engineer William McMullen of ARRO Consulting.
Only one bid was received, however, despite eight parties picking up bid packages, McMullen said.
The sole bid was from Metric Electrical Service Co. for $73,900.
Resident Dave Ceci asked if there were plans to use the park on Ye Olde Hauto Road at night.
“No, but Tamaqua School District was using it for the last two weeks,” Leibensperger said.
The district’s tennis courts were under renovation, so students were using Ryan Memorial Park’s tennis courts to practice.
Leibensperger said the park’s lights could remain on until 9 p.m., but with limitations.
The lights will be able to be programmed to turn on and off.
The park also includes basketball and pickleball courts, as well as a disc golf course.
