Tresckow water service upgrades detailed

Two projects that are poised to begin within the next two years are expected to improve water service in the village of Tresckow.

Aaron Debalko, general manager of the Kline Township Municipal Authority — which provides water service to Kelayres, McAdoo and Tresckow — told the Banks Township supervisors Monday night the authority will be retiring two PENNVEST loans they took to acquire the authority a decade ago.

They intend to apply for more PENNVEST loans to install one new, 8-inch water main line beginning where a small line was installed down South Beech Street in 2019.

This will enable the installation of new fire hydrants, because hydrant service had been very poor — down Oak Street, one of the main east-west streets in Tresckow, to Elm Street, the final north-south street in the village.

The line would then go down Maple Street, another major east-west street, to meet North Beech Street.

Debalko said residents will be responsible to update their connections from the curb to the main, if they are galvanized metal.

The second line will come from a second water tower that will be built from the present tank near the Babe Ruth baseball field. Debalko said a line will run from the new tank to feed the Maple Street line.

With the new lines, seven new fire hydrants will be installed.

For years, the quality of the water in Tresckow has been poor. DeBalko said the quality of the water is not from what is coming out of the authority, but from the 100-year-old lines.

As an example, Debalko showed pictures from the inside of a 4-inch water line that was dug up.

The picture showed a quarter-sized opening where the water was still able to flow.

“If someone in that block took a shower, no one had water pressure,” Debalko said, “It wasn’t a pressure problem, it was a flow problem,”

Debalko said he anticipates hearing about the new PENNVEST grants for the project in April,

“I think we will break ground in the fall of 2026, or the spring of 2027, Debalko said.

The authority will also be doing a third project simultaneously on the east side of McAdoo.
