Hometown FD seeks information

The Hometown Volunteer Fire Company is asking for Rush Township residents’ help as it updates its records to improve pre-arrival preparedness.

Volunteers have been making their rounds to identify potential hazards such as propane tanks, solar panels, electric vehicle chargers and anything else that could pose a risk to firefighters during an emergency. Volunteers recognize that they likely missed propane tanks and other hazards due to their reluctance to intrude on private property.

As a result, they’re asking Rush Township residents who have solar panels, propane tanks, electric vehicle chargers or any other potential hazards on their property to notify them.

Residents who believe that there is anything that could be hazardous to firefighters responding to an emergency at or near their home, should email hometownvolunteer25@gmail.com or text 570-952-5383 with their name, address, where the hazard is located and a description of the hazard.

They are also seeking to identify homes with elderly family members, handicapped people or anyone who may need assistance evacuating in an emergency. Those who have a resident in their home who might not be able to evacuate on their own, should email hometownvolunteer25@gmail.com or text 570-952-5383 with their name, address, the name of the person living with them and the location of their bedroom.

Those who prefer mailing the information may send it to Hometown Volunteer Fire Company, 45 Mahanoy Ave., Tamaqua, PA, 18252.
