Bulldogs hoping for success during fall season

Northern Lehigh will be participating in five other sports besides football this fall.

A number of talented athletes return for the Bulldogs this season, and hope to contribute to a winning record.

The girls soccer team enjoyed a strong campaign in 2024 and are hoping for success again this season.

BOYS SOCCER

Head coach: Tristan Moore (2nd year)

League: Colonial

Last year’s record: 7-11 overall, 3-11 league

Key losses: Logan Berfield, Michael Wilk.

Key returnees: Ethan Moore (Sr., right midfield, among CL assist leaders), Dregan Millroy (Sr., left midfield) and Kellen Bauer (Jr., right back).

Top newcomers: Michael Bauer (Fr., striker), Chase Moyer (Fr., center back), Keelan Moore (Fr., central defensive midfielder), Gustavo Rosario (Fr. GK), Cooper Glatfelter (Fr., central defensive midfielder).

Season outlook: Northern Lehigh has an exciting group of freshmen entering the program this season that play a lot of soccer in the offseason. The infusion of young talent paired with the Bulldogs’ key returnees should put them back on pace to compete for a postseason berth.

Quotable: “I’m extremely proud of this team. We have a highly skilled freshman class coming in that plays a lot of club ball. We also have a good trio of veterans back as well, led by Moore. We’re looking to improve our league record, and also we’re looking to compete for both league and district playoff spots.” — Northern Lehigh head coach Tristan Moore

GIRLS SOCCER

Head coach: Jason Reinhard (15th season)

League: Colonial

Last year’s record: 14-7 overall, 8-5 league

Key losses: Katelynn Barthold, Dekotah Barthold, Mikayla Gordon, Gabby Hanna, Katya Pesesko.

Key returnees: Natalie Moffitt (Sr., forward), Ella Tosh (Sr., defender), Marley Edwards (Sr., midfielder), Cassidy Snyder (Sr., defender).

Top newcomers: Maddy Williams (Fr., midfielder), Mackenzie Powell (Fr., forward).

Season outlook: Northern Lehigh lost a host of experienced players from last season, but the team’s overall athleticism remains intact. Moffitt returns as a four-year starter, and there are several three-year starters as well. The Bulldogs are expected to have a fast and competitive squad that will still be a tough out in the Colonial League.

Quotable: “We’ve been a top 3-4 team in the Colonial League the past few seasons. This season, I still think it’s going to take some time to see who we are. We’re not a team that should be taken lightly because we have an athletic team; we’re just younger than we have been. This team has been a joy to coach. The girls come to practice with a great attitude every day, and they want to be the best they can be.” — Northern Lehigh head coach Jason Reinhard

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Head coach: Mike Lehtonen (5th year)

League: Colonial

Key losses: Reece Johnson

Key returnees: Edward Benedict (Jr.).

Top newcomers: Zachery Gosart (Jr.), Tyler Adar (Fr.), Adrian Hassold (Fr.), Landon Rentschler (Fr.).

Season outlook: Northern Lehigh has just seven runners on its boys roster. The Bulldogs will depend heavily on Benedict’s veteran presence, as well as the development of their younger runners. Benedict ran solid in both leagues and districts for Northern Lehigh last season.

Quotable: “I’m excited to see our young core of guys move up to the varsity ranks. The distance change is always key for the younger runners. Zach brings a toughness to our team. He’s a wrestler, so we’re hoping that competitiveness trickles throughout the team. I’m very glad he came out. Edward is really coming into his own. We expect a lot from him and to lead by example.” — Northern Lehigh head coach Mike Lehtonen

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Head coach: Mike Lehtonen (5th year)

League: Colonial

Key losses: Dakota Barthold

Key returnees: Emma Heil (Sr., state qualifier) and Emily Gad (Jr.).

Top newcomers: Savannah Biechy (Jr.), Adriana Danyluck (Sr.).

Season outlook: The Bulldogs have just four runners, so limited numbers are an issue for them. Heil and Gad will be the leaders for this squad. Heil finished in the top 20 at both districts and leagues last season.

Quotable: “Emma has been the face of Northern Lehigh distance running the last four years. Emily has gotten better every year, so I’m excited to see her progress. Our newcomers are also looking good and they have ability. We will just see how they develop as the season goes on.” — Northern Lehigh head coach Mike Lehtonen

FIELD HOCKEY

Head coach: Allison Chruscial (2nd season)

League: Colonial

Last year’s record: 1-17

Key losses: Addison Cieri, Sarah Hanzarik, Madison Thomas

Key returnees: Ariana Williams (Sr., forward), Mackenzie Chruscial (Jr., utility), Fiona Jones (Jr. defender), Madilynn Husack (Jr., G), Aida Porobenski (Jr., forward), Gracie Frederick (Jr., defender). Chruscial and Porobenski were the leading goal scorers for the Bulldogs last season.

Top newcomers: Lilliana Ayala-Barreto (Jr. defender), Bella Barone (Fr., defender), Addison Banda (Fr., forward), Kylee Truett (Fr., midfielder).

Season outlook: Scoring more goals will be the goal for Northern Lehigh this season, as its struggled to put points on the board the last few years. Chruscial and Porobenski were the leading goal scorers on the team last season. The Bulldogs expect to have a very strong defense and an improved offense.

Quotable: “Defensively, I think we’re going to be very solid. We’re also very solid in goal. Offensively, I think we have a chance to be strong, we just have to finish opportunities in the circle, whether that’s putting the ball in the back of the net or drawing penalties. We’re off to a great start, though. The girls have played a lot more field hockey this offseason, and have actually gotten a lot of real game time by playing in a summer league. That has put us way ahead of where we’ve been the last few seasons.” — Northern Lehigh head coach Allison Chruscial
