ON THIS DATE AUGUST 19, 1964

Coaldale homeowners whose properties on Lehigh Street were damaged by a mine cave-in in April, 1963, received good news yesterday when the House and Senate gave final approval to the Housing Act of 1964.

The new act guarantees full-market value for mine subsidence damaged properties under the Urban Renewal Administration.

The Housing Act of 1964 contains a mine subsidence provision, introduced by Congressman George M. Rhodes, which provides that families whose property is damaged will receive more adequate compensation when taken under an urban renewal project.

A grant of $70,063 for the 22 Coaldale homeowners that has already been approved is likely to be changed as a result of the new act.
