Lehighton Area School District
Lehighton Area School District took the following action during last week:
• Student accident insurance renewal – Approved renewal with United States Fire Insurance Co. for the 2025-26 school year.
• School meal prices – Adult lunch set at $4.85; adult breakfast at $2.95. All students will receive free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Program.
• Community-based instruction trips – Approved for the special education program.
• Drug and alcohol preventative services – Approved contract with Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission Inc. for $22,000 for the 2025-26 school year.
• SELECT program – Approved partnership with the Lifelong Learning Center funded by the Department of Human Services.
• Health eTools – Approved a three-year contract at $5,970 per year, funded through the technology budget.
• Additional handbook – Approved Extracurricular/Athletic Code of Conduct.
• Bus drivers – Approved Donna Hahn and Anthony Pagotto for George’s Transportation Co.
• Bus stops – Approved for 2025-26. Locations are not be made public for security reasons.
Donations
• $1,500 from LEAF for the high school SWPBIS program.
• $5,000 from T-Mobile for Friday Night Lights.
• AEC Extrusion STEM education kit valued at $3,000 from Pennex Aluminum, with assembly donated by Penn State.
• PA Beef and Veal in the Classroom grant – Approved $150 for middle school and $150 for high school Family Consumer Science lessons.
Employment
• Roberta Sander, high school lunch aide, $12.52 per hour, effective Aug. 19.
• Kathy Kriner, part-time cleaner, $12.52 per hour, effective Aug. 12.
• Mary Ellen Rhoads, part-time cleaner, $12.52 per hour, effective Aug. 12.
• Melissa Trently-Solt, behavioral technician, $37,260 per year, effective Aug. 19.
• Six staff members approved as mentors at $37 per hour for up to 16 hours each.
• Substitute list additions – Approved eight substitute teachers and one substitute paraprofessional.
• Resignations – Steffani Smith, elementary center music teacher, effective Sept. 26; Steven Sommers, high school math teacher, effective Aug. 1.
• FMLA leave – Approved for one employee beginning Aug. 29.
