Experience, energy highlight Marian’s fall outlook

Marian Catholic enters the 2025 fall season with a mix of familiar faces and new leadership across its athletic programs. From the volleyball team aiming to defend its Schuylkill League Division II crown, to the growing soccer programs and a cross country squad under new direction, the Colts and Fillies will look to build on tradition while charting a path forward.

GIRLS SOCCER

Head coach: Bob Campomizzi

Last season’s record: 4-14 (fourth year of program)

League: Schuylkill League

Key losses: Maddie Kattner, Lizzie Pikitus, Caitlyn Kovatch

Key returnees: Teaghan Biros, Autumn Green, Malina Letcher, Kendall Van Putten Vink, Kassandra Hibbler, Madison Malloy, Brena Farley

Top newcomers: Willow Lare, Carly Green, Emmalee Howard, Katie Knock, Ellie Mussinan

Season outlook: Marian, still in its early years as a program, returns a mix of veterans and newcomers. Campomizzi hopes the squad’s growing experience will help the Fillies make strides in 2025.

BOYS SOCCER

Head coach: Joseph Tracy (first year)

Key losses: Nuredin Gjoca (midfield), Mergim Neziri (midfield), Abraham Cabrera (midfield), plus four other seniors

Key returnees: Edison Mitchell (Sr.), Logan Aneskevich (Sr.), Darren Paulino (Sr.)

Top newcomers: Incoming freshmen class (evaluation ongoing)

Season outlook: With just three returning seniors and several newcomers, Tracy views this as a rebuilding season. A strong freshman class could help the Colts show improvement.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Head coach: Dominique Thaler (first year)

League: Schuylkill League

Key losses: Ava Fritz (Misericordia University)

Key returnees: Teaghan Biros, Anna Keer, Addy Marek

Top newcomers: Azrael Zito

Season outlook: Thaler, a longtime assistant, takes over the program and inherits a hardworking group. Despite the loss of standout Ava Fritz, the Fillies return key contributors with the potential to compete.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Head coach: Dominique Thaler (first year)

League: Schuylkill League

Key returnees: Wade Eroh, Achilles Fitzpatrick, James Gelatko, Jacob Berlanda, Gavin Zola

Season outlook: The Colts return six experienced runners who will provide depth and leadership. Thaler expects the boys to run in packs and continue to progress.

VOLLEYBALL

Head coach: Maria Currie (second year)

Last season’s record: 18-5 (Schuylkill League Division II champions, District 11 runner-up)

Key returnees: Alena Lombardo (MH), Isabella Horvat (Sr., OH), Kali Grochowski (Jr., OH)

Top newcomers: Maddy Davis (Jr.)

Season outlook: Marian returns its full starting lineup from last season’s title-winning squad and enters 2025 with high expectations.
