Carbon Career & Technical Institute
The Carbon Career and Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee approved the following:
• Assigned Henry Woods the duties of an attendance officer, in order to fulfill Pennsylvania magisterial guidelines for the 2025-2026 school year.
• Approved Hal C. Resh as a Category C (long-term) substitute heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration Instructor, effective Aug. 22, for a period of 91 days. Resh successfully completed this assignment for the 2024-2025 school year.
• Approved John (Jay) Sabo as a Category C (long-term) substitute science teacher, effective Aug. 22, for a period of 91 days.
• Appoint Joseph Mitzen, carpentry instructional aide, effective Aug. 21.
• Accpeted the letter of resignation from Alexandria Ventrella, Culinary Arts instructional aide, effective with her letter dated Aug. 6.
• Approved Joshua Reif as a schoolwide cocurricular activities and student club/organization adviser, as needed at the established rates for the 2025-2026 school year:
• Granted Carly Rinda, digital marketing and business fundamentals instructor, a professional employee contract and tenure status effective Aug. 23:
• Appointed Francine Kluck, Adult Education site supervisor and approve her agreement effective Sept. 5 through Sept. 4, 2026. This is at no cost to the CCTI Joint Operating Committee operating budget.
• Accepted the letter of resignation received Aug. 12, from Kevin Kuehner, Precision Machine Technology instructor/SkillsUSA adviser effective up to 60 days following this date.
• Approved the cost of $800 to cover transportation to Maple Grove Raceway Park, Mohnton on Sept. 12, to participate in the National Hot Rod Association Youth and Education Services program.
Auto service technology, auto collision repair, and precision machine technology students will attend this previously approved educational trip. Chaperones are: Harold Resh, auto service technology instructor; Angela Sablich, science teacher; Stephen Nesler, auto collision repair instructor; Kevin Wagner, auto collision repair instructional aide, and Kevin Kuehner, precision machine technology instructor have been approved to chaperone this event.
• Transportation contracts be approved with the following contractors for 2025-2026, noting that each contractor will be paid any cost for gasoline used to fulfill the terms of this contract which exceed $2 per gallon: Jim Thorpe Area School District, $52 day per bus; George’s Transportation Co. Inc., $102 day per bus; George’s Transportation Co. Inc., midday run, $102 day per bus; Leon George II School Buses Inc., $229 day per bus; Panther Valley School District, $96 day per bus, and Weatherly Area School District, $140 per day per bus.
• Approved the contract with Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission Inc. for the 2025-2026 school year in the amount of $7,400. Agreement is for one day of service weekly over a period of 38 weeks.
• Approved the 2026 CCTI graduation ceremony, as follows: 5 p.m. May 28 at the CCTI field, under the tent. Rain date will be May 29. In the event of severe weather conditions on May 29, the ceremony will be moved to the Jim Thorpe Area High School auditorium at 5 p.m. This has been approved by Jim Thorpe Area High School.
• Established the following substitute rates for the 2025-2026 school year: teacher/instructor and instructional aide Day 1 through Day 9; $115 per day; Day 10-plus cumulative $140 per day; teacher/instructor only, 15-plus consecutive days, $160 per day (in a single assignment); building substitute, $150 per day; secretary, $105 per day, and administrative $210 per day.
