Letter to the editor: Our country is in trouble

Americans don’t agree on many issues, but most feel that our nation is in serious trouble. There hasn’t been such a morally bankrupt Junk Value Nation since the Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by God for their wickedness.

America is a schizophrenic society with a worm’s eye view of reality. A mental health condition, where people are disconnect from truth. Symptom’s such as false beliefs and disorganized thinking.

The only thing that’s new is the history we haven’t read. History gives us a bird’s-eye view.

We need to understand recurring religious/political cycles called Great Awakenings. The idea implies a moral vacuum during less religious times. Lasting about 80 years, they’re set in motion by changes happening faster than the ability to manage our lives.

Do your homework. Type “Great Awakenings” into the Internet.

Our first Awakening, emphasized Bible study. It led to the American Revolution and our government of, by and for the people. Its beliefs about human dignity, equality, inclusion and education are still valued.

The 19th century’s Awakening shifted blame from personal sins to a corrupt society. It resulted in Civil War. A common public school available to every child was its solution for poverty, slavery, alcoholism and other social evils.

The Progressive Era’s Awakening, 1890s-1930s, blamed big business and corrupt government. Regulation, safe foods, income tax, Social Security, woman’s right to vote and child centered education was the outcome.

America’s Fourth Great Awakening is whispering in the wind. Soon it will be a raging hurricane. A holy war fought for the soul of our nation.

The angry MAGA cult is led by, Satan’s snake in the tree of forbidden fruit, the predator Trump. Donald panders our material WANTS; the deadly sins of lust, gluttony, sloth, wrath, envy and pride.

The Tattooed Generation and their spiritual leader Pope Leo will make America great again. Leo teaches Jesus way to a life of purpose, meaning and joy. Our spiritual NEEDS for patience, justice, temperance, love, compassion, kindness, faith, hope and the inner peace they create.
