August 14, 1963 — Dave “Smokey” DeLay pitches a one-hitter to lead Tamaqua to a 13-2 Panther Valley Little League tournament victory over Nesquehoning. DeLay strikes out 10 in his six innings of work, with his only hit allowed a two-run homer by Mike Kokura. The winning hurler, who ends the game with three Ks in the final frame, also helps his own cause with a hit and two runs. Tamaqua, which races to an early lead with a seven-run first inning, receives two hits and a run from Steve Sassaman, while George Wenzel adds a hit and a pair of runs.
