Schuylkill native named Marian principal

Marian Catholic High School announces that Bishop Alfred A. Schlert has appointed the Rev. Robert T. Finlan as the new principal, effective immediately.

In a letter to the Marian Catholic High School community, Bishop Alfred Schlert expressed his gratitude and confidence in the school’s mission moving forward. “Thank you for your continued support of Marian, a Catholic high school vital to Schuylkill County.”

The Bishop emphasized the future of Marian Catholic lies in its commitment to its Catholic identity, and reminded the community that Marian’s mission is clear: “Marian Catholic High School has one mission: to proclaim Jesus Christ, and His teachings as articulated by the Catholic Church. All academics, athletics, and social activities must be in service of this one Truth.”

Bishop Schlert said Rev. Finlan is uniquely equipped to lead Marian at this pivotal time. “He is an exemplary priest with seasoned experience as a Catholic educator, Catholic high school administrator, and pastor. I have every confidence in his abilities.”

A native of Ashland and alumnus of Cardinal Brennan High School with a Masters in Education, the Rev. Finlan has devoted his priesthood to parish ministry and Catholic education, and is familiar with the culture and the faith of the region. As principal, he will now lead Marian’s students, faculty, and families into a renewed chapter of solid Catholic education.

Bishop Schlert concluded his letter with a blessing and a message of encouragement: “May Our Blessed Mother, who watches over Her school, guide our path forward and protect Marian.”

With a clear mission and strong leadership in place, Marian Catholic High School looks ahead to the new school year with hope, faith, and a renewed commitment to Christ-centered education.
