Chestnuthill adopts data center ordinance

Chestnuthill Township Supervisors adopted a data center ordinance at a hearing prior to the August Board meeting. The ordinance allows conditional use in light industrial/commercial districts.

The ordinance, “The intent and purpose is to protect and provide for public health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of Chestnuthill Township and to ensure the adequate and safe development and use of property located in Chestnuthill Township. A Data Center is “used primarily for the storage, management, processing and transmission of digital data.”

Cryptocurrency mining facilities will be permitted, which are specialized data centers that house a large number of computers for specialized purposes.

In other business, KC Mechanical’s payment for the Emergency Services Facility received conditional approval once the township receives payroll certification.

Seven local business owners were appointed to the Local Business Advisory Committee: Clary Fernandez, The Body Shop Training Center; Joe Homza, Sunny Day Preschool; Dave Peppriell, DRP Electric; Jonathan Wehrenburg, JTW Contracting; Henry Rouhana, Sure Fix Remodeling; Cinthia Marina, Cartesion Dance Academy, and Joanne Leasure; Day One Accounting.

No action was taken on Christosa Holdings’ land development request for a stormwater waiver as Engineer Chris McDermott has not yet looked at the plans.

There were no bids on three Sun Valley Real Estate properties.
