A Carbon County official reminds those who want to utilize the gazebo in the Josiah White Park in Jim Thorpe for events like setting up live music should make the request to the county a few weeks before the event.
On Thursday, Commissioner Wayne Nothstein said after two actions where the board ratified gazebo requests for live music that waiting so close isn’t really a good thing to do. Ratifying a request is agreeing to it after the action has already taken place.
In this case, the gazebo requests were for live entertainment on July 26 and Aug. 2.
Nothstein said that applications for the gazebo use should be submitted to the county at least two weeks ahead of the event, however earlier is always better.
“We cannot allow this to continue,” he said. “I want to get the word out that if you’re going to request use of the gazebo, please fill out a form and get it to us ... we need time to review it.”
The reason he said is because you can’t always assume the gazebo is open and another event may already be approved for that day and time.
Carbon County allows live entertainment, as well as events like wedding ceremonies to take place in the gazebo if a request form is filled out.
