Lehighton Band presents final summer concert in park

The Lehighton Band will close out its summer concert series with the third and final performance of the season at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater.

This free community concert will feature a lively selection of Irish favorites, along with a special side by side performance featuring members of the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band.

In an era when many much larger towns no longer have a single community band, Lehighton is fortunate to have two thriving ensembles. Both the Lehighton Band and the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band are directed by Bradly R. Cressley, who has brought energy and vision to preserving the area’s strong musical traditions.

The evening’s program includes:

• The Star-Spangled Banner — Arr. Moffitt

• Macnamara’s Band — O’Connor

• An Irish Posey — Farnon

• Kerry Dance, The Gentle Maiden, The Wearing of the Green, Londonderry Air

• Joy Dance — Arr. Watson (donated to the Band by member Jennifer Mann)

• The Irish Washerwoman — Anderson

• I’m Shipping Up to Boston — O’Loughlin

• McGehee March — Richards

Following this, the Boys and Girls Band will join the Lehighton Band for combined performances:

• Beyond the Seven Hills — Sweeney

• Jet Stream — Chattaway

• Somewhere Out There — Arr. Clark

• I Like Mountain Music — Arr. Norred

• If — Arr. Osterling

• The Magnificent Seven — Arr. Story

• Safari — Ployhar

• Sousa Spectacular — Arr. Williams

A freewill offering will be accepted to help support the bands and their mission to provide live music to the community.

Benches are available, but guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets for their comfort.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall.
