Companies submit bids for Legion paving

Six companies submitted bids for a paving project at the Lehighton American Legion.

The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, opened bids via PennBid for the parking lot rehabilitation project at the post home in Lehighton.

The project scope includes reconstructing the parking lot area of the legion.

The apparent low bidder was Lehigh Asphalt Paving and Construction, who bid $106,058.75 for the project. This is a combination of the base bid and an alternate option.

Additional bids submitted ranged from $109,923.17 to $155,750.

The board then tabled the bids for two weeks to allow time for review. Either a contract award or bid rejections will take place during the commissioners’ Aug. 21 meeting.

This is the second time this project has been bid out, with the first round being canceled after additional work that was needed was discovered.

Carbon County is overseeing the bidding on behalf of the legion because in October 2023, the board submitted an application on the legion’s behalf to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for a Monroe County Local Share Account grant for $73,581, which was later approved by the state.
