Carbon man sentenced on drug trafficking charges
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Jesus Miguel Bracero, 29, of Bowmanstown, was sentenced Friday to 121 months and 18 days’ imprisonment.
United States District Judge Julie K. Munley handed down the sentence for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine and over 40 grams of fentanyl.
According to Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus, between January and September 2023, Bracero and others distributed large amounts of controlled substances throughout Carbon and Lehigh counties. Inestigators conducted multiple controlled purchases of methamphetamine from Bracero at his residence.
In July 2023, investigators executed a search warrant at Bracero’s residence and seized controlled substances, firearms, ammunition, explosive devices, drug transaction records, and drug packaging material. The area where the contraband was located was protected by video surveillance cameras and two aggressive dogs.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safe.
In May, Bracero was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to making terroristic threats in a case involving firearms and alleged methamphetamine possession, according to Carbon County Court records.
Bracero was sentenced to six months to two years in state prison on Thursday by President Judge Roger Nanovic after entering a negotiated guilty plea to one count of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Three additional charges — a second count of terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person — were dismissed as part of the plea agreement, according to court documents.
Bracero also pleaded guilty to fleeing police and receiving stolen property in separate cases.
The case originated from incidents that occurred in July 2023 in Bowmanstown. According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Nicolas De La Iglesia of the Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton, a woman reported on July 28, 2023, that she had been involved in a domestic dispute with Bracero at a residence in the 700 block of Fireline Road.
In a separate incident in court documents, the woman’s father contacted state police and reported that Bracero “had just pulled a shotgun on him when he went to the residence to check on the welfare of the family and his grandson,” according to the affidavit.
