State police at Hazleton - crashes
State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Three people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 7:49 a.m. July 23 on the Old Berwick Highway in Hollenback Township.
Police said Michael J. Bognet, 75, of Nescopeck, Brittany M. Trammel, 29, of Hazleton, and Mindy J. Wright, 40, of Weatherly were treated by personnel from the Slocum Township Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance Squad. They were not transported from the scene.
Police said the crash occurred when Bognet was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry that entered the intersection without proper clearance and collided with a 2017 Ford Escape drive by Trammel. Wright was a passenger with Trammel.
Police said both vehicles left of the intersection before their arrival.
• Two drivers in a five-vehicle crash at 6:44 a.m. July 29 on Interstate 81 in Butler Township had suspected serious injuries.
Trinity C. Lui, 27, of Hazleton, and Brionna L. Thomas, 24, of Drums, were taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by personnel from the Sugarloaf Fire Company and the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps, respectively.
Police said the crash occurred as Lui was driving a 2023 Nissan Rogue northbound when it crossed lanes and sideswiped a 2025 Mack Truck Anthem driven by Curt T. DeLong, 44, of Tamaqua, before crossing back into the left lane and traveling over a grassy area.
Police said the Rogue then sideswiped a 2016 Ford F-150 driven by Michael J. Campodonico, 61, of Saylorsburg, before continuing north and striking a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox that was operated by Thomas head-on. Before coming to a halt, the Rogue rotated and hit a 2023 Ford Transit driven by Amanda M. Rodgers, 35, of Dupont.
Police said the Rogue and Equinox were towed from the scene.
Lui was cited after the crash, according to police.
DeLong, Campodonico and Rodgers were all uninjured, police said.
• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:40 p.m. July 30 on Main Street in Banks Township.
Police said the crash occurred as Enrique Madera, 33, of Beaver Meadows, was driving a 2012 Ford F150 westbound when the truck’s braking system failed. Police said he traveled across the eastbound lanes and went between two trees, causing damages to both sides of the truck. It had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
• Benjamin G. Raykos, 31, of Tresckow, was cited for careless driving after a one-vehicle crash at 6:40 p.m. July 24 on East Market Street in Banks Township. He was uninjured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2005 BMW west and was traveling too fast when he lost control of the vehicle. It traveled off the road and hit a utility pole.
• Susan Schuster, 67, of Weatherly, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 9:17 p.m. July 24 on Plane Street in Banks Township.
Police said the severity her injuries is unknown. She was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale.
Police said she was driving a 2016 Subaru Forester eastbound when it struck a deer that had entered the roadway from the right side of the road.
The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
