Meals on Wheels seeks donations, volunteers

August is “Monroe County Meals on Wheels Month.”

The agency has 300 clients and delivers 15-18 routes per day, Monday through Friday.

The routes are served by 200-plus volunteers, with 50-75 different volunteers each week.

Meals on Wheels offers a pet food program, with 76 clients participating with over 120 pets. Clients receive a two-week supply of pet food each month.

This program and the Client Needs Pantry both run solely on donations, so any help from the community is appreciated.

More volunteers are always needed.

Items planned include:

• Pet Food Drives at four of the public libraries for the entire month of August, including Western Pocono Community Library. Most needed items are: wet dog food (Alpo, Pedigree, etc.); wet and dry dog food for small dogs (Cesars, Bella, etc.); wet and dry cat food (Friskies, 9-Lives, etc.); and treats for both cats and dogs.

• Client Needs Pantry Drives are collecting personal care and home care items for clients. Most needed items are toilet paper, paper towels, deodorant, tissues, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, dish soap and liquid hand soap. Donation boxes are at the Eldred, Chestnuthill and Polk Township municipal buildings.

• Special donation days at Red Robin and Duck Donuts.
