Carbon fair demolition derby brings dents and thrills

Thirty-three cars came out to put on a thrilling show for this year’s Carbon County Fair derby.

The event started off with the small car division.

Action arose as Ramrod, Carl Schaller from Lehighton kicked it into gear wasting no time beating up the door and rear of his opponents.

The #455 of Kyle Rappold held his ground, utilizing the best of his abilities.

Carl Schaller’s son Jake was right in the fun as well. He conserved his car quite well and didn’t let anyone hold him back. He laid down some key hits to bring the win his way.

Following Schaller’s win was the 4-wheel drive class.

Despite the amount of cars, the intensity was still flaring as the #555 of James Franks and the #210 of RJ Rausch battled it out until either could go any longer.

Rausch became victorious over Franks and took the 4-wheel drive demo as his.

Next up on the card was the “Run What You Found” class.

A stacked field of drivers took on this demo, which included various types of cars. It was a group effort to question who would be the victor in this division.

Devin Schmidt of Palmerton left it all on the table for this one, but came short as his car was taken a beating a little early on.

Jake Schaller and RJ Rausch were not settled for just one win for the night as they went on to duke it out to make it yet another successful round for them.

Kevin Behler was in the mix this time making countless efforts to really punch a win in the “Run What You Found” class.

Rausch claimed yet another win after Kevin and Rausch banged doors and front ends twice more.

Rounding out the night was the “80s or Newer” class. They really put the thrill in this one as generous size hits were being laid on just about every car. Across the track went Mount Bethel’s Cole Laubach.

Unfortunately his car did not hold up like he had hoped it would.

After other guys were no longer able to continue, it came down to some hard hitters. Kevin Behler, Ryan Williams, and Zach Schaller were left out of the great field of drivers.

Behler went after Williams and Schaller as his car was in solid condition to keep going, at each competitor left standing.

Behler strategized his way to a win after Ryan Williams was called done.
