Fundraisers set for Carbon pet shelters

It’s the dog — and cat — days of summer in Carbon County.

There are several upcoming events to help the Carbon County Animal Shelter in Nesquehoning, as well as Carbon County Friends of Animals over the next few weeks.

Dog shelter

The Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley in Summit Hill will hold “A Dog Days of Summer” event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the pavilion at Ludlow Park, Summit Hill.

Dogs are welcome to attend the event, and for those looking for a new furry friend, the Knights are offering half-price adoption at the shelter during August.

In addition, Tom Connors, the director of the shelter, will be on hand to answer any questions about the dogs currently under his staff’s care at the shelter.

Those attending can bring an item from the shelter’s wishlist to donate. Items needed include soft dog treats, 13.2-ounce Pedigree Choice Cuts gravy canned dog food, Purina Moist and Meaty in cheeseburger flavor, large or extra-large dog toys, disinfectant wipes, Fabuloso cleaner, Kennelsol, laundry detergent, leads and slip leashes and trash bags.

Cat shelter

On the feline side, there are a few upcoming events.

Bidding is currently open for the cat shelter’s online auction. There are three items currently up for auction, and bidding continues through Monday. More information on the items can be found on the shelter’s Facebook page Carbon County Friends of Animals.

On Sunday, Carbon County Friends of Animals will be at Radical Wine Company, 511 Mahoning Drive East, Lehighton, from noon to 4 p.m. for a raffle and drink special. The company will donate $1 for every drinks purchased during the event.

To be entered into an additional door prize, bring a wishlist donation of laundry detergent, cleaning supplies such as bleach, Lysol spray, paper towels, canned cat food or anything else from the shelter’s list on its website.

On Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the cat shelter will hold a dog wash fundraiser at Olympian Car and Dog Wash in Jim Thorpe.

Half of the proceeds raised by people washing their dogs will benefit CCFOA.

In addition, there will be dog items and refreshments for sale, as well as activities for children and a raffle for a large pet bed.
