Police departments and nonprofit organizations welcomed community members Tuesday night for National Night Out.
Organizations offered games, food, demonstrations and information.
National Night Out is always held the first Tuesday in August, weather permitting. It’s a way for children to get comfortable with law enforcement.
Communities included Coaldale, Jim Thorpe, Lehigh Township, Nesquehoning, Palmerton and Tamaqua. Lehighton asked residents to turn on their lights and police drove through town handing out freeze pops.
Lehighton officers were interacting with borough residents from 6-8:30 p.m. They handed out over 100 freeze pops, 30 bottles of water and department swag to children and families.
They also discussed issues concerning the community with residents.
Tonight, Lehighton Police will host “Ice Cream with a Cop” at Corner Cone at Mahoning and Eighth streets from 5-7 p.m. The event will include an officer meet-and-greet and free face painting. The first 100 children under age 13 will get an ice cream voucher.
Here’s a look at some of the happenings throughout the area Tuesday night.
