Turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• Ian S. Rogg, 65, of Effort, was cited for careless driving after a one-vehicle crash at 2:24 p.m. July 30 at mile marker 72.6 in East Penn Township, police said. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2005 Western Star dump truck northbound during heavy rain and reduced visibility when he failed to exercise caution in a heavily congested area where traffic had slowed.

They said he lost control of the truck, which traveled onto the right shoulder of the road and hit a concrete barrier.

The truck had disabling damage, police said.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash at 2:08 p.m. Aug. 1 at mile marker 80 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said the crash occurred when an unknown vehicle towing a camper was northbound while attempting to pass a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado operated by Christopher J. Sholtis, 18, of Dallas, Luzerne County.

They said the driver of the passing vehicle became distracted and failed to use caution in changing lanes in a heavily congested area, resulting in the vehicle striking the Colorado before leaving the scene.

Police said the Colorado had minor damage.
