Riverview gets Beltzville overflow, problems

Hal Resh from the East Penn Parks and Recreation Commission came to the board of supervisors meeting Monday to inform the supervisors of the overcrowding at the Riverview Park on Riverview Road.

“When Beltzville Park closes, the people from all over filter down to all the boat launches and parks along the river,” Resh said. “During the Fourth of July weekend, the parking lot was overflowing.”

Resh is concerned about emergency situations.

“There was no way the fire department could get to the launch to draft from if there was another fire on the mountain. Fire Lane signs are doing no good,” Resh told supervisors. “The parking lot had license plates from seven states.”

He said people have alcohol. Signs are posted but people are ignoring them.

Vice Chairman Gary Kuehner asked, “What about park rangers?”

Resh said, “We have had no luck with them to police the situation.”

Resh also received approval to look into 12 acres of land that is on Riverview Road that is for lease for commercial/industrial, to connect with the park and the D&L trail.

In other business, supervisors heard an update on road projects.

Milling, base repair and paving were completed on West Bowmans and Pinewood roads.

Shoulder mowing throughout the township is ongoing.

Supervisors voted to advertise a quality of life ordinance.
