The Palmerton Borough Water Department is currently upgrading equipment for the new radio read system.
The borough posted the information on its Facebook page late Monday afternoon.
“Our crews will be out and about, visiting each home,” the post states. “Unless there is a specific issue, access will only be to the outside of the home, just as if we were reading meters. Employees have identification available upon request.”
Contacted Tuesday morning, borough Manager Autumn Canfield explained the borough wanted to let residents now that this is an ongoing project.
“Our guys are deploying the equipment,” Canfield said. “Generally the reads will be done from the vehicles driving down the street, which will save us time, which will then save them time for other projects.
“We’re very excited for it. I think some of our neighboring municipalities have them and they’ve seen success. We’re looking forward to the more efficient reading.
“Our guys do wear IDs and they will show them to people.”
