Community spirit made for a successful run of the 20th Annual Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital Festival.

Delroy Ruch, a member of the festival committee, said this year’s attendance matched that of past years despite rain having spoiled part of Friday’s activities and the cancellation of Saturday’s entertainment.

Ruch estimated the attendance reached between 2,000-2,500 every night, and soared over the 3,000 mark for the fireworks show that closed the festival on Sunday.

Proceeds of the festival help the hospital fund a list of needs. Joan Smith, committee treasurer, said from 1993-95, the committee was able to give the hospital approximately $30,000 that went towards various equipment, including wheelchairs and a Hoyer lift for the nursing home.
