No one was injured in a six-vehicle pileup that involved local residents at 3:03 p.m. June 20 on Route 33 in Hamilton Township, state police at the Stroudsburg barracks said.
Police said the pileup began when Vasilios Efstathiadis, 75, of Pocono Summit, was driving a 2006 GMC northbound at an “improper speed.”
They said he was unable to slow his vehicle as traffic ahead of him slowed, resulting in the GMC striking a 2013 Subaru Outback driven by Edward G. Shellhammer Jr., 60, of Palmerton, and a 2013 Nissan Altima operated by Michael W. Turner, 65, of Effort.
Police said the Outback was pushed forward and struck a 2012 Volkswagen Passat operated by Zerrin Oztimur Dincer, 63, of Saylorsburg, before spinning forward and striking a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Jamie S. Eisenreich, 50, of Kunkletown.
Police said that Efstathiadis was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
