August 2, 1972 — Jim Thorpe uses a three-run bottom of the sixth inning to gain an 11-10 walk-off victory over Tamaqua in a Panther Valley Little League tournament contest. The winning tally is scored on a wild pitch. Craig Zurn collects three hits and scores three runs for the winners, who rally from a 10-5 deficit. Lynn Mann adds a pair of hits and scores twice, while Glen Hrinkonich chips in with two hits and a run. For Tamaqua, Jack Quinn ends with three hits — one a two-run homer, while Rick Paisley connects for three hits and two runs. Quinn also starts a triple play when he snares a line drive, steps on second for another out and throws to first to complete the rare play.
