August 1, 1982 — Pleasant Corners of Mahoning Township wins four consecutive games to go undefeated and gain the playoff championship of the Carbon County Women’s Independent Softball League. Pitcher Beth Smith tosses all four games for the winners to earn most valuable player honors. Pleasant Corners defeats Kattner’s Bar, Wild Creek Inn and Drigan’s Store twice during the seven-team tourney, held at the Ginter Field in Summit Hill. Other members of the winning team include Eva Lynn Ahner, Marilynn Ruch, Dawn Smith, Janice Kromer, Lisa Diehl, Lori Higgins, Steph Miller, Cheryl Kunkle, Kathy Yates, Rene Miller, Colleen Kurtz, Joan Mermon and Sandy Lindner.
