Coalcracker Chorus honors 2 retired members
The Coalcracker Barbershop chorus moved their recent weekly practice session to the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in order to visit former member Tom Zimmerman.
Zimmerman recently celebrated 47 years as a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and Coalcracker Barbershop Chorus.
The Chorus honored Zimmerman for the accomplishment and recognized his recent 90th birthday.
Another recently retired barbershopper, Delroy Steigerwalt, attended the gathering and was recognized for his 19 years of singing with the Coalcracker Barbershop chorus.
The group will be singing the National Anthem at the Reading Fightin Phillies game on Aug. 12 and at the Lehigh Valley IronPigs game on Aug. 19. They will also lead the crowd with “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch at the Reading game.
Anyone interested in having the chorus perform for their events or interested in singing with the group is invited to call Blake Tharp at 610-570-4417 or visit their Facebook page “Coalcracker Chorus” for more information.
Membership is open to men, women, boys and girls of high school age or older. There is no cost and no commitment regarding attendance, just an interest in singing in harmony.
Practices are normally held 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays at the Tamaqua Arts Center.
