Ground was broken this morning at the Palmerton Library, where a new, two-story annex is to be added to the back of the present structure.

Gerald Geiger, director of the 73-year-old community library, stood on the site of the future annex with William Faulkner, saying Palmerton would “not only endure, but prevail” and that the library’s expansion project is proof.

The 32-by-37-foot annex will nearly double the amount of usable room in the 402 Delaware Avenue library and will support access to the existing mezzanine, featuring a large new children’s reading room and improve on the building’s cramped space.
