Weatherly honors Little League all-star softball team

Weatherly Borough Council on Monday night honored the borough’s 10U Lady Wreckers All-Star team, who won the state Section 6 Little League Softball Championship.

The team arrived via firetrucks as the Citizens Fire Co. No. 1 of Weatherly paraded them through town from Eurana Park to the borough building and back to the park for a dance and celebration.

The girls posed for photos with their championship banners for District 18 and Section 6 outside, before going in, where borough council presented each team member and coach with a proclamation.

“I’d like to congratulate these young women,” Mayor Norman Richie said. “They are a great asset to this borough. They put the borough back on the map. They should be proud of themselves.”

“They’re in the top eight in the state of Pennsylvania and I think that’s outstanding,” he said, and the room erupted with applause.

Richie then read one of the proclamations, and then called each team member and coach up to accept their individual plaques, which recognize their “excellence and outstanding performance.

“The young ladies demonstrated teamwork, dedication and resilience,” Richie read. “This is the ingredient for continued championships through their lives.”

In addition to the proclamation, the borough also gave each of the girls a $5 gift card redeemable at the concession stand in the park.
