Lehighton league kicks up some summer fun

The Lehighton Adult Kickball League will crown a champion on Saturday, Aug. 10 — but the day will be about much more than just wins and losses.

The league’s playoffs are scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. at East Penn Sporting Club, featuring a six-team double-elimination bracket. The championship match is expected to conclude around 5 p.m.

Joining in on the day’s events will be Tastefully Twisted, a newly local ice cream truck that will be on-site to serve players and fans.

Founded in 2019 by three community-minded individuals, the league was created to “foster community engagement and build strong relationships among our members,” according to current league president Stephen Haupt.

“As a nonprofit organization, our primary objective is to foster community engagement and build strong relationships among our members,” Haupt said. “I firmly believe that partnering with local news such as Times News would be an excellent way to promote community involvement and showcase our organization’s mission and values.”

Now in its sixth season, the coed league is the only one of its kind in the area. It includes a minimum age requirement of 21 and rules requiring female participation.

“Lehighton Adult Kickball is a longstanding coed league, established in 2019 by three community-minded individuals seeking to create a fun and inclusive experience for adults,” Haupt said. “Having taken on leadership responsibilities this year, I can attest that our league’s unique aspects include a requirement for female participation and a minimum age requirement of 21.”

For Haupt, growing the sport locally and using it as a vehicle for connection is what matters most.

“I’m excited about the opportunities we can create,” he said. “Growing the sport in our community and bringing adults together for something fun is exactly what we need.”
