State police at the Hazleton barracks said that a 35-year-old Effort man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after he was taken into custody at a sobriety checkpoint.

The incident occurred at 11:12 p.m. July 4 at the intersection of North Church and East 37th Street in Hazle Township while the suspect was driving a 2021 Hyundai Elantra, according to police.
