Yard sale enthusiasts feed their hobby and cats

Carbon County Friends of Animals held a yard sale Saturday at its headquarters at 77 West 13th Street in East Jim Thorpe over the weekend.

There were local vendors selling a variety of items such as clothing, Christmas decorations, kitchenware, sporting equipment, and many other items.

Volunteers from the shelter were also busy selling homemade burgers, sandwiches, and drinks.

“We are doing this to help raise funds for the shelter,” explained Joan Sherwood, a volunteer from Jim Thorpe. “The money goes to feeding, caring for, veterinary care, upkeep, whatever is needed.”

The shelter typically has between 120 and 150 cats.

“They are free range,” Sherwood added. “They are not in cages; they play, they climb, they have a good life.”

For information on adopting a kitten or cat, making a donation of money or other needed items, or to volunteer, visit them online at www.ccfoa.info, or call them at 570-325-9400.
