State police at Bethlehem

State police at the Bethlehem barracks reported the following incidents:

• Edward Novoa, 23, of Northampton, was charged with strangulation after police responded to an incident at 7:17 p.m. May 20 on Main Street in Northampton.

Police said the victim is a 65-year-old man from Saylorsburg.

They said Novoa engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim that escalated into a physical altercation, during which time Novoa put the man in a chokehold, causing him to drop to the ground. Police said it is alleged Novoa continued to choke the man while he was on his knees and a verbal altercation ensued.

• A Laurys Station couple had $20,000 stolen from them in a theft by deception incident police were called to at 5:20 p.m. June 5 on Wynnewood Drive, North Whitehall Township.

The 70-year-old man and 71-year-old woman told police they were “scammed” out of the money after receiving multiple fraudulent emails claiming purchases of Apple products. Police said the emails contained phone numbers and hyperlinks available for potential victims to dispute the charges. As part of the scheme, police said the actors used fake Apple and bank customer support phone numbers to access information of the victims.

They said the actors directed the victims to withdraw $10,000 cash from two separate branches of their banks, place it in a box and hand it over to a courier who arrived at their residence and provided a password.

• A 44-year-old Lehighton woman was cited for retail theft (shoplifting) after police were called to Exotic Dreams, Catasauqua Road, Hanover Township, at 4:54 p.m. June 28.

Police said she stole two pieces of merchandise — one valued at $139.99, the other at $104.99 — before fleeing the store.

• A 27-year-old Saylorsburg man is the victim is a criminal mischief incident police were called to at 5:44 p.m. July 13 on Catasauqua Road, Hanover Township.

Police said they were called to the Amazon parking lot for a report of paint damage to an employee-owned 2021 Dodge Durango. The, am reported two minor scratches to the paint estimated to cost $50 to repair.

• Police said Jeremy Kistler, 42, of Andreas, is facing drug possession and driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance charges after a traffic stop at 9:39 a.m. July 12.

He was stopped in a 2019 Ford for a traffic violation in the 5300 block of Oakwood Lane, North Whitehall Township, police said.

• Zachary Schiffner, 25, of Slatedale, was cited for harassment by physical contact after police responded to a domestic incident at 1:38 a.m. July 13 at 4014 W. Grant St., Washington Township.

A 26-year-old woman from Slatedale told police that Schiffner pushed and shoved him.

• Katie Maier, 21, of Easton, was charged with access device fraud charges after police responded to an incident on Hillside Road, Washington Township.

Police said that between June 1-5 she used credit card information of a 54-year-old Slatington woman to make purchases totaling $830.45.

They said a 2012 Hyundai Velostar and a 2018 Toyota Camry were involved in the incidents.

• Police said they responded to a suicide attempt at 3:09 a.m. July 6.

The incident occurred on Bruce Lane in Washington Township.

• A 72-year-old Schnecksville woman was “scammed” out of $40,000 in a theft by deception incident police said they were called to at 10:54 a.m. June 26 on Old Post Road, North Whitehall Township.

Police said she told them she met someone on an internet dating service, and through building an online relationship willingly sent the money in multiple transactions.
