July 26, 1953 — East Chunk’s Jim Rader and Lehighton’s Larry Hill both have strong games at the 15th annual American Legion All-Star game played on the Nesquehoning High field. Rader is selected as the No. 1 player by the scouts in attendance after collecting two hits in four at-bats and playing flawless defense at shortstop. Hill, picked the second best player, tosses two hitless innings and strikes out five of the six batters he faces. Other area players that participate in the contest include Johnny Feddock, ranked in the top five, as well as Johnny Zuzu, Bobby Hoben, Dick Denesevich and Bobby Zellner.
