Mahoning Vly. Speedway for sale

Mahoning Valley Speedway, a longtime fixture in the Carbon County racing community, is officially on the market for $3 million.

The 30-acre site, located at 2562 Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East in Lehighton, is being marketed as a prime commercial opportunity, though hopes remain among local racing supporters that its motorsports legacy might continue.

The listing, brokered by Coldwell Banker Realty’s Aaron Clouser, highlights the property’s development potential. It is zoned C-1 Commercial and features approximately 1,500 feet of frontage along Route 443 with three approved highway access points.

“The possibilities are endless with the zoning,” Clouser said. “I think the overall goal is to make it, or keep it, something that is serving the community. And if we could keep it in the racing spirit, that would be perfect.”

In just the first day on the market, Clouser said he received significant interest from individuals involved in the racing world.

“Not just drivers, but people that run other tracks, people that do slot car racing — things like that,” he said. “They’re starting to gather some information. The traction that it’s gotten in just one day has been amazing.”

The property includes 28.87 acres of land and 30,000 square feet of indoor space. While racing enthusiasts are hopeful for a buyer who will preserve the speedway’s purpose, Clouser said the site is also available for lease and all options remain open.

“If the right person comes along with the know-how to lease it from the owner, that’s OK too, and they want to keep the racetrack going, that would be amazing,” Clouser said. “We’re leaving all options open to allow for that flexibility.”

He added that there’s no immediate rush to close a deal.

“The owner is certainly not in a hurry to run away from the business or the community,” Clouser said. “We really want to try and find the right fit for it.”

While the racetrack remains operational, there’s concern within the local racing community about what the future might hold.

Earl Paules, who holds the all-time wins record at Mahoning with 67 victories in Modified and Late Model divisions, called it his “favorite place by far.”

“You can pass,” Paules said. “It’s a circle. And people have trouble running in a circle. It’s a really good facility. It’s close. That track is just cool.”

He pointed to the track’s layout — set down in a hollow with bleachers on the surrounding bank — as an ideal setting for short-track racing.

“Racetracks are hard to find anymore like that,” Paules said. “You’re not going to see any like that around here.”

The speedway opened in the mid-1950s as a dirt oval and was originally operated by the Lehighton Stock Car Racing Association. After a period of inactivity, it was brought back to life in 1987 by Ward and Dottie Crozier, who paved the track following the closure of Dorney Park Speedway. The track has since remained an active hub for local racing fans under the direction of Jack and Rebecca Carlino.

The listing mentions that nearby anchors include Lehigh Valley Hospital, Lowe’s and Walmart, reinforcing the corridor’s strong consumer demand. Clouser acknowledged the commercial appeal but emphasized the desire to find a community-focused buyer.

“I’d love to be able to take advantage of the property, versus just splash something on there that’s going to be ugly and of no use to locals,” Clouser said.

He also said the owner is offering financing, which could make the property more accessible to independent buyers.

“Owner financing itself is a huge advantage to maybe let the little guy come in and try and do something rather than the warehouse or the Home Depot or one of them come in and buy it,” Clouser said.

In the meantime, Clouser said the intention is to keep the current racing season going as planned.

“We don’t want to upset the drivers or create any kind of panic or anything there,” he said. “Spread the word. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors. They might know someone that would be interested in keeping it going.”
