JULY 25, 1977

Dedication of the newly-renovated Howard D. Buehler Memorial Swimming Pool in Tamaqua took place on Saturday afternoon.

John Mundy, nephew of the late Howard D. Buehler, threw an inflatable plastic “champagne” bottle into the pool in a dedication gesture.

Participants included Mayor William W. Yost, Borough Manager Donald Matalavcage, State Rep. William Klingman, council members Lewis Erbe and Evan Willing and the Rev. Gerald Jacoby, retired minister of Zion Lutheran Church, Tamaqua.

The new 687,000 gallon L-shaped pool is on the same site as the former facility. Renovations include new bathrooms and additional equipment that cost abut $310,000. Buehler’s estate provided about $260,000 of those costs while the borough paid the remaining expenses.
