State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Scott K. Williams, 67, and Penny D. Scherer, 61, both of Frackville, were injured after a motorcycle crash at 12:18 p.m. June 30 on Skyline Drive in New Castle Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from Schuylkill EMS to the Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg.
Police said the crash occurred as Williams was riding a 1993 Harley-Davidson southbound when it struck a pothole in the road, causing its front wheel to lock up. Williams was unable to keep the motorcycle upright and it subsequently overturned.
Scherer was a passenger on the motorcycle.
• Niko I. Jacoby, 20, of Orwigsburg, was cited for driving while his license is suspended or revoked after a one-vehicle crash at 11:19 p.m. July 1 on Summer Valley Road (Route 895) in East Brunswick Township. He and a passenger were uninjured in the incident.
Police said Jacoby was driving a 2025 Hyundai Sante Fe northbound when it struck a tree in the road. The vehicle had disabling damage.
• Mahmoud G. Mohamed, 40, of Modesto, California, and Farshad Abdullah, 31, of Las Vegas, Nevada, had suspected minor injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 9:18 a.m. June 28 on the Mile Hill (Route 309) in Kline Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the McAdoo Fire Company Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.
They said the crash occurred as Mohamed was driving a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia southbound when he under-compensated for a right curve and the rig exited the southbound lane, hit the center directional divider, traveled across the northbound lanes and struck the guide railing. It then continued down an embankment, here it jackknifed and struck several trees.
The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
Mohamed was cited after the crash, according to police.
• Arlenny Abreu, 30, of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 3:37 p.m. July 2 on Skyline Drive, New Castle Township.
Police said she was transported from the scene by personnel from the Schuylkill EMS and then flown by MedEvac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township. They said the severity of her injuries is unknown.
Police said she was driving a 2012 International Harvester southbound at a speed greater than reasonable or prudent in an active work zone. She failed to negotiate a right curve in the road and the vehicle overturned, police said. The truck’s left side struck several concrete traffic barriers.
Police said Abreu had to be extricated from the vehicle, which was towed from the scene.
Abreu was cited after the crash, according to police.
• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:25 p.m. July 2 on the Morea Road in Mahanoy Township.
Police said the crash occurred when Bonnie M. Heiler, 73, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2013 Subaru Legacy that struck a deer that had entered the roadway.
The car was towed from the scene.
• Joseph W. Burke II, 37, of Mahanoy City, had minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 7:59 p.m. July 6 on Suffolk Road, Mahanoy Township.
Police said he did not require an emergency transport from the scene.
They said the crash occurred as Burke was riding a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound when he braked to avoid striking a rabbit in the road. The motorcycle struck the rear of a 2008 Ford F-150 operated by Hopeton L. Brevett, 48, of Mahanoy City, police said
Both the motorcycle and the F-150 had minor damage.
Burke was cited after the crash, police said.
• Julia T. Harris, 53, of Gordon, had “possible injuries” after a two-vehicle crash at 7:57 a.m. July 9 on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township, police said.
She refused a medical transport from the scene, according to police.
They said the crash occurred when Mark T. Hindman, 53, of Tremont, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sante Fe that struck the rear of a 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by Harris.
Police said the Santa Fe was towed from the scene, while the Sonata was driven from the scene.
• Police said Maria I. Gonzalez, 36, of Coaldale, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 2:02 p.m. July 5 at the intersection of East Water and First Street in Coaldale.
She was driving a 2006 Dodge Durango west on Water Street when it passed a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by Edwin F. Weirich Jr., 30, of Lansford, on the right shoulder of the road, police said.
The Durango then entered the westbound lane, which it struck the rear bumper of the Sierra, police said.
Gonzalez refused to exchange insurance information with Weirich before leaving the scene, according to police.
Neither driver, nor three passengers in the vehicles, were injured.
