Palmerton Area School Board
Palmerton Area School District’s board of directors approved a series of personnel, fiscal, and operational items last week.
The following actions were taken:
• Set 2025-26 meal prices as $3.15 for an elementary lunch, $3.25 for a secondary lunch, $4.85 for an adult lunch and 55 cents for milk.
• Approved the 2025-26 agreement with Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit for accounting, payroll, personnel, and inventory software,
• Established a capital projects fund to manage bond proceeds for the construction of a new district administration office and renovations to the high school.
• Retroactively approved a $200,000 transfer from the General Fund to the Food Service Fund.
• Accepted a $500 donation from TBB Realty to Towamensing Elementary for the student-run broadcasting program and a $5,000 donation from the Carbon County Community Foundation to the High School Video Club,
• Approved tuition reimbursements for district staff.
• Hired Holly Skrimcovsky as a junior high school English teacher at a salary of $52,801 and Thomas McElhinny as high school l English teacher at a salary of $52,301, effective Aug. 18,
• Hired Lisa Maderic as a high school business, computer and information technology teacher at a salary of $63,601, effective Aug. 18.
• Hired William Yesik as a full-time custodian at a prorated annual salary of $32,970, effective July 16.
• Accepted the retirement of Paula Frey, fifth-grade teacher at S.S. Palmer Elementary, effective at the end of the business day on Aug. 18,
• Approved Sage Nalesnik as adviser for the high school SADD Club for the 2025-26 school year at a stipend of $834.
• Approved the student athletic handbook and coaches handbook for 2025-26.
• 2025-26 athletic ticket prices and season passes.
• Two agreements with KRE Security LLC for athletic and district-wide security services for 2025-26.
• An independent contractor agreement with Kristy Gruber, certified school psychologist, from July 16, through June 30, 2026.
• Approved a professional services contract with HookerTech LLC for Aug. 19.
• Multiple agreements with PathStone Child Family Development Services including a “Letter of Understanding,”, and a Public Preschool Memorandum of Understanding and data-sharing agreement for the same period.
• Retroactively approved the Technology Pool Legal Services Consultation Agreement with CLIU #21.
• Intergovernmental Agreement for Title I Equitable Services with CLIU #21 for 2025-26.
• Agreement with PenTeleData for classroom telephone service effective July 16.
• Change Order #2 from Bruce George Paving & Excavating, Inc. for an adjustment of $1,097.06 related to final tonnage amounts for the S.S. Palmer Elementary parking lot project.
• A health sabbatical for employee #776, effective July 2, not to exceed one-half school term, in accordance with board policy,
• Schematic design package from KCBA Architects and authorized proceeding with the design development phase for a new district administration office and high school addition/renovation.
• A motion to appoint Trahn Thompson as substitute Director of District Facilities at an annual salary of $90,000, prorated, effective July 16.
• Related motion to approve a leave of absence for Thompson from his current maintenance position, effective the same date.
