Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua both posted weekend wins in the Panther Valley 11-12 Little League Tournament.

Thorpe edged Towamensing, while Tamaqua rolled past Anthracite.

Jim Thorpe held off Towamensing for a 5-4 Panther Valley 11-12 Little League Tournament victory.

Thorpe’s Jionni Puddu knocked in the tying run in the fourth inning with an RBI double and later scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. An error in the fifth allowed JT to add an insurance run, which proved to be crucial when Towamensing’s Dillon Welsh delivered an RBI triple in the sixth to pull his team within a run.

The winners, however, got a lineout to center — caught by Isaiah Skrimkovsky — to preserve the victory.

Puddu finished with a pair of hits for Thorpe, while Jaxon O’Shura, Jagger McElmoyle and Skrimkovsky all finished with a hit and a run. Carter Reis pitched five innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine, for the mound win.

For Towamensing, Welsh went 3-for-3 (single, double, triple) with a run and an RBI. Bryce Baumgardt added a two-run homer.

Anthracite-Tamaqua

Tamaqua exploded for nine first-inning runs and cruised to a 14-3 Panther Valley 11-12 Little League Tournament win over Anthracite.

Adam Balliet delivered a two-run double in the opening frame, while Kroy Tirpak, Drake Miller and Bryce Bailey all added RBI singles.

Bailey finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a pair of runs. Balliet and Miller each ended 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Brady Bartczak added two hits and two runs, while Joshua Setlock chipped in with a hit, two runs and an RBI.

For Anthracite, Owen Demyanovich collected two hits and scored a pair of runs.

Hegins-Tamaqua

Hegins broke a tie with two runs in the seventh inning to pull out a recent 5-3 win over Tamaqua.

Jeffrey Oakes had a pair of hits to lead Tamaqua, which led 3-2 after five innings.

Oakes delivered an RBI single in the third for the game’s first run. After Hegins took a 2-1 lead, Paxton Carter knocked in the tying run for Tamaqua in the fourth.

Oakes had a run-scoring hit in the fifth to put his team ahead, but Hegins rallied for the victory.

Jayden Rex suffered the loss despite allowing four hits and one earned run in 6 2/3 innings. He waled four and struck out four.
